My Idea of a Friday Recap

I rarely do these things, but here’s my spin on the Nobody Reads Blogs on Fridays post.

While I can’t recall any time of my life where I thought being called a baby chicken was flattering, apparently it’s accepted by other women, including the newly formed SEO Chicks. They’re part of the new young breed of SEO’s, where attitude simply comes with the territory, baby.

I dream of being an rock star. Really. If you do too, try the SEO Related Lyric Contest, where you can prance in front of your groupies screaming about search marketing and how it has broken your heart. Sad songs always score with the ladies.

114 comments and still packing them in is SEOMoz’s delicious debate piece called The Vast Ocean Between Shoemoney & SEOmoz and Why You Should Be Able To Trust Blog Links. I commented twice. I only do that when my buttons are pushed. Which they were. The chance to refer to myself as a “reader slut” was too good to pass up.

The Mike now works with The Lisa in a new position for The Bruce. I’d like to take this opportunity to tell Andy Hagans that I’ve always secretly been delighted to be called The Berg on his site. I go there sometimes, just to gaze at his blogroll to admire it.

Let’s see if I got this one right. First, you go to a search engine marketing conference and tell the audience they suck at their jobs during the keynote speech. Then, you follow it up with all kinds of link bait that makes the industry even angrier. Finally, you launch a search engine using the Hawaiian name for “thank you”, that’s edited by people because, of course, SEO’s are evil promoters out to destroy every search engine on the planet. Danny Sullivan takes the high road and writes Mahalo the new search engine with more class than I just did.

Another reason to get in good with Lee Odden.

Matt Bailey gives a scolding lecture tells it like it is in Branding v Optimization – Something Has to Give. I read things like that and know deep down inside I’m doing something wrong. He has the stats to prove it.

My apologies to Aviva Directory for neglecting to add this to my post the other day on cool stuff I had to share. This was supposed to go on that list. Grade Your Website: 31 Online Free Tests is loaded with good stuff, all stuck in one spot. Which is kinda what my desk looks like, only in a bad way, if you know what I mean.

Finally, an observation. Every single time I post about women in technology or marketing to women, I LOSE subscribers in Bloglines.

I’m not sure what to take from that.

  1. Wow I didn’t know my blogroll had such a following! Maybe I should make it the main content and just put my posts at the bottom of the sidebar :-)

  2. Hi Kim,
Thanks for mentioning the SEO Chicks =) lol yeah it might not seem like being called chicks is very flaterring, but that’s what we are, chicks in SEO. SEO women would just sound too serious =) Are you going to SMX in Seattle? I’m actually in the midst of packing at the moment (whilst blogging and getting my daughter ready to go to her daddys). Would love to meet you in person Kim, I’m a big fan.

    Cheers, Lisa

  3. Not going to SMX, Lisa. When they get around to covering persuasive marketing design and SEO, I’ll be interested :)

    I’ll be at Pubcon though!

  4. Lea…it would seem so. I have a friend who may be able to help me figure this out, with some stats. If I can nail down what’s going on, I’ll write it up. As he told me, when I sought some help, my target readership may be shifting.

    Stuart. I dunno. :)
